Philosophy of Teaching
As my philosophy of teaching is developing, I believe my mission as an educator will be to
facilitate and nurture all students, their background and abilities, as well as
provide meaningful and authentic knowledge that they can then take beyond the
walls of the school into the real world where they will contribute and be
successful, active members of our society.
Other important key elements:
1. As an emerging Spanish teacher, I believe all students have an equal right to education and should be welcomed into a safe environment where they can feel free from fear of making a mistake.
2. Strong relationships between the teacher and the students, and between the learners in the classroom are essential. I believe whole-heartedly that this provides a trusting bond and powerful foundation for your class to be vulnerable, learn and grow together. Classroom management can also be successful with a strong sense of classroom community and learner engagement.
3. It is important for students to seek to discover true knowledge and be guided by the teacher using different teaching methods for each unique learning moment. To accomplish this, I enjoy applying a wide variety of strategies based on essential educational principles encompassing cognitive functioning, learning theory, diversity issues, instructional planning and assessment.
4. Differentiation is crucial to allow every student to thrive individually. Each unique learner acquires knowledge at their own speed and portrays individualized learning styles, preferences, strengths and weaknesses. Teachers need to respect and embrace these differences and ensure that all individual needs are being attended to in order to facilitate optimal learning for everyone.
5. Through well-planned scaffolding and authentic curriculum, teachers must inspire and prepare students for their academic and social futures. Learning must be meaningful to the students for them to get the most out of their educational experience.
6. It is important for teachers, administrators, students and parents to come together as a team to collaborate, communicate and create lifelong learning.
