Professional Development and Lifelong Learning
“You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!”- Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!
Throughout my first year in the Education program at U of C, I have already learned so much more than I had imagined. I feel through each course I am continually growing, expanding and developing my own teaching practice.
Throughout EDUC 455 Professional Development and Lifelong Learning I have had many individual experiences, but I have also shared a lot of enlightenment with my Community of Practice (CoP) and the rest of our classroom community, which have added layers and depth to my educational knowledge. At the beginning of the course I was able to reflect upon my own learning experiences and who I am as an adult learner. I am apart of a wonderful CoP called Awning Red that I have contributed insight and experience to, as well as embraced the experiences and knowledge of others. As a group I feel we were able to work together efficiently, communicate respectfully and create thoughtful and inspiring work, which I have used to develop my teaching perspective. Finally, our CoP explored the idea of learning as a sea and we all participated in taking the rest of a class on a journey which represented the different stages of acquiring knowledge. This was a wonderful collaboration experience which allowed me to critically reflect on my own journey as well as learn from my colleagues experiences. I was so proud of how far our group came and was moved by the bravery that some of our members demonstrated sharing their own hardships, ideas and opinions.
